Ms. King’s Classroom
In Senior English, we are concluding our unit inspired by The House on Mango Street, a compilation of vignettes from the perspective of a Mexican immigrant. At the start of this unit, students researched different cities in Mexico. Recently, they just watched a documentary featuring Mexican immigration.Currently students are using all of this information to write a research paper about a social issue linked to Mexico or immigration.
In Junior English, we are writing research essays revolving around a research question students developed while reading various short stories and poems by authors like Sherman Alexie, Leslie Marmon Silko, and Simon Ortiz. Students are learning how to integrate quotes into their writing while simultaneously studying American Indian tribes along with some of the social issues affecting various tribes today.
